Why Adding a Pavilion to a Poolside Patio in Monona, WI Is a Smart Move
Some of the best summer memories are made around the pool; not necessarily in the pool, but around it. We can’t be in the water 24/7 (though kids will try!), and to make the space more livable, some sort of shelter is required. Here’s why adding a pavilion to a poolside patio in Monona, WI is a smart move.

A pavilion is an opportunity to create a year-round retreat from the elements. It can be one of the most value-added projects of a backyard pool area renovation: along with fire and food, shelter is a top requirement if you want to use your pool patio for more than a few short months of the year.
Let’s talk about shelter. Summer weather can be unpredictable. Whether the kids are playing in the pool or the adults are enjoying some cocktails and a game of bocce ball, nobody wants a sudden downpour to send the party indoors. There’s no better shelter than a poolside pavilion, especially if it has some amenities that make it more livable. If a pavilion is complete with an outdoor fireplace and a bar area where people can enjoy some refreshments while they wait out the rain, you’ll see very few wet footprints going through the house!
Since a pavilion offers shelter from the rain, it makes your pool patio usable long into the cooler months after the pool has been closed up for the season. Adding an outdoor fireplace to one side (or in the center, if it’s a very large pavilion) along with a simple bar or a full outdoor kitchen will create a poolside space that’s usable all year (including when the snow is falling) except for the most blustery winter days.
What else can you house within a poolside pavilion? Many amenities can find their way into a pavilion to enhance your enjoyment of your pool. These include a sound system. Placing speakers within the pavilion as well as in certain outdoor areas will help everyone enjoy the sounds of your favorite tunes, without blaring music at full volume and annoying the neighbors. This zoned approach will require outdoor speakers which can be controlled from a stereo system in the pavilion or a smartphone. Within the pavilion itself, you can achieve a surround-sound effect by placing speakers in each corner.
Many people place an outdoor kitchen in the shelter of a pavilion. This makes it easy to spend the entire day outdoors with very few trips into the house. To optimize this choice, be sure to add a ceiling fan that will help circulate hot air and cooking smells out of the space.
Consider hanging a few hammocks along the pavilion sides for the ultimate in afternoon relaxation. Hammocks can be hung right from the supports on three sides of the pavilion (allowing the fourth side to be open for easy access into the pavilion). What better spot for a poolside nap?
Although a pavilion provides shade and protection from the rain, there are a few additional ways to make the space even more inviting. A ceiling fan will help push hot air out of the pavilion. Outdoor heaters will keep the space toasty if your fire feature is not included in the pavilion plan. Mist sprinklers will take the temperature down significantly; and if they’re installed along all four sides, the middle of the pavilion could become virtually bug-free.
